WHAT GOING TO A COLDPLAY CONCERT TAUGHT US ABOUT BRAND ALIGNMENT

Brand alignment encompasses the harmonization of your brand promise, fundamental values, and organizational culture. It signifies that your brand promise is a true reflection of your beliefs, principles, and the conduct of your organization. This alignment ensures that what your brand pledges aligns seamlessly with what it stands for and how it operates. Coldplay, as a band, is known for several core values and principles that they advocate for and embody in their music, public appearances, and philanthropic efforts. Here are a few key values and themes that Coldplay is known to stand for, and how they lived them IRL at their latest show in Vancouver.

Cultural Respect & Appreciation

As they tour globally, Coldplay makes it a point to honor and respect the diverse cultures they encounter. They integrate local traditions, art, and music into their performances, creating a unique and respectful celebration of cultural diversity at every stop. Coldplay initiated their Vancouver shows with an Indigenous land acknowledgment by members of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, evoking emotions among fans. This marked the first occasion where representatives of these three Nations jointly presented a land acknowledgment and welcomed Coldplay, for the sole Canadian stop on their Music of the Spheres world tour.

Sustainability Superstars

In 2019, Coldplay announced that they would not tour again until they could find more environmentally conscious and sustainable ways to conduct their shows. fast forward to 2023 where their stage production is now powered almost entirely with renewable, super-low emission energy. Solar photovoltaic panels are installed at each venue, and renewable diesel, primarily produced from waste like used cooking oil, powers their transportation, significantly reducing carbon emissions. In collaboration with BMW, they've created the first mobile, rechargeable show battery, developed from recyclable BMW i3 batteries, enabling the usage of renewable energy throughout the show. Kinetic floors and power bikes are also installed to convert fans' energy into power for the show. Additionally, they utilize mains power from 100% renewable sources whenever available.

Charitable Champions

Coldplay donates 10% of their earnings from their tour to fund good causes. The proceeds are distributed among environmental and socially-conscious projects and charities, such as ClientEarth, The Ocean Cleanup, and One Tree Planted. The band collaborates with EarthPercent as a founding donor in this initiative and this was displayed during the waiting time before they went on stage.

Radiating Love & Positivity

In Vancouver, the atmosphere was electric with love and positive energy, a testament to their ethos. From the very first second, all you could feel was a profound sense of unity and affection, both from the band and among the fans. The crowd sang together and it was sucha profound message of love, hope, and togetherness among everyone in the venue. They also shared heartfelt messages about love, kindness, and compassion between songs, encouraging fans to spread love in their communities and to stand by each other through thick and thin. We left BC Place Stadium with our hearts full, inspired to carry the love and positive energy they experienced throughout the show into their everyday lives and into the work we do.
