We're taking some TIME to break down all of our favourite trends that small business owners (and everyone for that matter) need to know to slay their marketing game in 2024.
1. Personalization is in its prime
Personalized marketing is evolving beyond just using a customer's name. In 2024, it's all about hyper-personalized experiences tailored to individual preferences and behaviors. Whether you're sending influencers packages, or simply responding to your community in the comments and DM's, taking time to personalize what you're sharing will make a huge difference.
2. Long-form content returns
In the past three years, short-form, trending audio content was key on social. But now, it's all about mixing it up with longer, more original videos. Think engaging vlogs showing a day in your life or getting ready for an event (think Alix Earle) or unique takes on pop culture (a la @girlbosstown) While trends remain important, the shift towards extended storytelling is the new wave to ride on social.
3. AI isn't going anywhere
If you've been following us (and you totally should be) you know that we're obsessed with using artifical intelligence to work smarter, not harder. And it's obvious that the rest of the world is starting to join the bandwagon. As more and more companies rollout AI integrations into their programs and platforms, and even things like AI Influencers (??!?!) being a thing, we're on the cusp of an AI revolution.
But remember, it is a TOOL, not the whole damn strategy - you must take the results as a suggestion and use your own brain to make it feel personal. (see trend #1)
4. Keywords > hashtags
Google is about to get dethroned as nearly half of Gen Z is using TikTok and Instagram to search instead. This means that you're going to want to focus less on your hashtags and more on using actual words that people will search for.
Example: instead of #MarketingTips, write a caption with a hook of something like “looking for marketing tips for your small business?” this way when someone is typing in “small business marketing tips” their search bar, you're more likely to come up!
5. Selectivity is the sh*t
Instead of trying to post on all the different social channels (ie. Pinterest, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram AND Threads), just focus on what’s going to actually move the needle for your brand. If you're seeing results from Instagram, stick with it. It’s okay if you have a little FOMO and get curious but quality is ALWAYS going to be better than quantity, no matter the year.
6. Niche down to level up
While we would absolutely l-o-v-e for the whole world to see and resonate with our content, it's just not going to happen. Taking time to niche down (discovering what audience you should reach) will save you stress, improve your content and build a hella strong community. Even though you have an amazing message/product/service to offer, by trying to speak to everyone, you're actually speaking to no one. Which leaves you spinning your wheels and wasting a sh*t ton of time.
7. UGC is the main character
User-generated content is the name of the fricken game in 2024. People are tired of seeing typical salesy content and content that looks so professional it's unrelatable. By introducing UGC into your marketing, you'll have a more organic, genuine presence online and will be able to build trust faster.
